I don’t know about you but I’ve accumulated a lot of those plastic storage containers with drawers (mostly while I was at college). They hold a ton of craft materials and just other random things. They have been through several moves and every time I’ve moved, when someone goes to pick them up, the drawer starts to slide out with the potential for EVERYTHING to fall out. Fortunately, the drawers have always been caught before they completely fall so, no harm done.
This move I thought I’d make it easier so a disaster doesn’t happen. One might say, “Just take out all the stuff from the drawers”. But, who wants to clear out the drawers just to put them in another box when the drawer is essentially its own box? Not me, I’d rather secure the drawers so they don’t fall out! You could tape them shut with duct tape but I’d rather not have sticky residue on the drawers. You could also buy that expensive stretch wrap stuff that you wrap packages in. But why do that when you probably already have something you could use in your house!
My solution is… Glad ClingWrap! The Press n’ Seal stuff may or may not work better (haven’t tried it) but I already had the ClingWrap in my house and it works just fine for my purpose.
Here is how I wrapped my drawers:
STEP 1: Use a tiny amount of tape to hold the cling wrap to the container. If you have another person helping you just skip this step and have the other person hold it instead. It will actually make it a much easier process with another set of hands.
STEP 2: Wrap it tightly around the drawer. I wrapped it around twice to make sure it was tight and secure.
STEP 3: Press your hands around the wrap to make sure it sticks to itself and you’re done! (Tape is not needed to finish it off since it sticks to itself)
I also used this method with my 10-drawer rainbow organizer (shown above) that I’ve had since I was in elementary school 😛
Good luck with your packing & I hope this cheap, “how to keep drawers closed when moving”, tip helps!
